Anger Management Issues

Since my friend Mark just did a series on the 50th anniversary of the Fortress of Solitude, I thought I'd chip in with one of the covers he didn't cover:

Uhhh...how do *you* get in now, smart guy? What a dick!! She's your cousin, your only living relative, the only member of your freakin' species that's left, and you not only lock her out, but booby-trap the bloody key?

Why, exactly, would Kal-El be so cruel to Kara?

Uh, maybe you could, you know, MOVE OUT OF THE WAY?!?
Superman, or Superpuss?
He wrote nasty stuff on your Facebook, tooSo you see, if his protoge makes a small mistake, if Mr. Invulnerable feels even a teensy bit of pain, his reaction is to cut off his loved ones, ban them from his house, and flippin' booby trap the place?? Does this strike you as normal behavior?

Well, by the end of the issue he repents. Good save, Clark!! All's well that ends well!

I should note, as well, that the scene on the cover never occurs in the book...the Maid of Might's thought balloon above is as close as we get...and since it's actually a very very minor part of the story, it's practically a lie to put it on the cover.

Ah, but what was the story, you ask?? Tune in tomorrow, as we learn the Superman wasn't the only dickweed from Krypton who rained on Supergirl's parade that day.

Scene too fabulous to actually depict inside the issue is from Adventure Comics #382, 1969.

I actually looked through this issue last week when I was searching for specific images, and I was surprised not to see ANY reflection of the cover scene within the story. I had to double-check to make sure my copy wasn't missing any pages!

For years and years, DC had a policy of including a story panel that mirrored or, in many cases, exactly duplicated the cover scene, so it looks like that policy had obviously been cast aside by the time this issue was published.

Yes, the very late 60's and early 70's was when DC covers becoame more...ahem..."representational," ie, filled with lies. LOL
