Commissioner Gordon Is A Jerk

In The Brave And The Bold #150 (1979), the fiendish terrorist group The Battalion Of Doom...

Yes, they're actually called The Battalion Of Doom. You know, it's a good thing most Earth-Prime terrorist groups are such a dull unimaginative lot, because if would just give themselves snappier names, like The Battalion Of Doom, their recruiting would go way up. I'm just sayin'.

Anyhoo, the Battalion Of Doom has been kidnapping rich and famous Gothamites for a few weeks, and has promised to next snatch businessman Edward T. Weeks. Batman is shadowing him...

But strike they do!!

Oh, the old fake wedding kidnap scam! Clever! But surely that can't stop Batman!!

Often, the Haneyverse bares a distinct resemblance to the Lonely Tunes universe.

So, with ZERO help from GCPD, Batman risked his life and injured himself trying to save Weeks. And the first time he sees Commissioner James Gordon afterward?

Really, Jim? Ripping the Batman like that, in front of funeral goers? When your police have been so effective?

Oh, but actually, the GCPD is better and smarter than Batman, as Gordon tells snarkily tells him in the very next panel:

Really, Commissioner? You haven't a single clue, yet you're taunting Batman by sarcastically refering to one of his many nicknames??

Commissioner Gordon--JERK!!

Lonely Tunes sound awesome. Guess it's another example of the Warner / Vertigo crosspollination.

I know it was a different time but names like "The Brotherhood of EVIL Mutants" always rubbed me the wrong way. I like it better when Magneto or Doom behave in a way that makes it appear they feel THEY are in the "right" in their motives...
