The Most Powerful Weapon In The Universe?

We've heard ad infinitum that the Green Lantern ring is the "most powerful weapon in the universe" and that Hal Jordan is "the greatest Green Lantern ever."

Let's put that to the test, shall we?

A comet is about to devastate the planet Ungara. And only Hal can save them!

D'oh!! Some most powerful weapon, eh?

Well, Hal decides the only way to save the planet is to move it--yes, move the entire planet--so he lands there to warn them what he's about to do.

Well, Hal being Hal, he manages to piss everyone off and get hit in the head:

Eventually the Ungarans realize that their lives actually depend on this clown...but no it's too late to move the planet in time!! What to do??

Now wait a minute...

Hold on...

There's no way...
OK, we've violated 27 laws of physics and probably doomed the planet from the tidal/gravitational consequences of moving their moon around like a billiard ball.

Still, you've got to admit, pretty damn impressive. Maybe it is the most powerful weapon in the universe, and Hal is the greatest GL ever.

Yet this is Hal Jordan, the guy who can't hold a job and has to pal around with Green Arrow and Black Canary to be an effective hero at this point in his career. This is a guy who can juggle planets?

We should note, however, that Hal is narrating this story to his impressionable young cousin Air Wave, so maybe Hal is slightly exaggerating this tale just the teensiest bit?

Someone head over to Ungara and check out this story, OK?

From Green Lantern #107 (1978)

There is just something so...so satisfying seeing Hal get hit in the head. Again.
